Tour Description
Watch the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 in Luxor, then follow the Nile south to Aswan and Abu Simbel. This private, fixed-date tour runs from 30 July to 5 August 2027, with 5-star hotels, domestic flights and your own Egyptologist from start to finish.
About the 2 August 2027 eclipse
On 2 August 2027 the Moon’s shadow crosses southern Egypt, and Luxor sits close to the point of longest totality. The partial phase starts in late morning, and the Sun is fully covered for about six and a quarter minutes at around 1:00 PM local time, one of the longest total eclipses on land this century. In August the sky over Luxor is almost always clear. You watch from a prepared viewing spot near the temples, and eclipse glasses are provided.

Itinerary
Day 1 (30 July 2027): Arrive in Cairo and Nile dinner cruise
Our representative meets you at Cairo International Airport, handles passport control and luggage, and drives you to your 5-star hotel. In the evening you join a Nile dinner cruise with a Tanoura whirling dance show and live music.

Day 2 (31 July): Giza Pyramids, Grand Egyptian Museum and Saqqara
Your Egyptologist takes you to the Giza Plateau for the three Great Pyramids, the six smaller queens’ pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. You then visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the colossal statue of Ramses II greets you in the atrium and the complete Tutankhamun collection is on display. After lunch you drive to Saqqara for the Step Pyramid of Djoser, designed by Imhotep and the first pyramid ever built.

Day 3 (1 August): Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo, Royal Mummies and Khan el-Khalili
You begin at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, then visit the Hanging Church, built on the gate towers of the Roman fortress of Babylon, and the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As, founded in 641 as the first mosque in Africa. In the afternoon you see the royal mummies at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and finish in Khan el-Khalili.

Day 4 (2 August): Fly to Luxor and watch the total solar eclipse
An early flight takes you to Luxor, where your Egyptologist meets you. You visit the Valley of the Kings, the royal burial ground of the New Kingdom, the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. After lunch you go to your viewing spot near Karnak to watch the eclipse: first the slow bite of the partial phase, then about six minutes of totality as the sky darkens over the temples once dedicated to the sun god Amun-Ra. Afterwards you walk through Karnak and its Great Hypostyle Hall.

Day 5 (3 August): Drive to Aswan, the High Dam and Philae
After breakfast a private car takes you south to Aswan, about three hours along the Nile. Your guide shows you the High Dam, built in the 1960s to control the Nile flood, and takes you by boat to Philae Temple, the temple of Isis that was moved to Agilkia Island to save it from the rising water.

Day 6 (4 August): Abu Simbel and fly to Cairo
An early drive with your guide to Abu Simbel. Ramses II, who reigned from 1279 to 1213 BC, had the Great Temple carved into the cliff, its walls showing his battle against the Hittites at Kadesh, and a second temple for Queen Nefertari beside it. You return to Aswan and fly to Cairo for your last night.

Day 7 (5 August): Fly home
After breakfast we take you to Cairo International Airport for your flight home.

Is it safe to watch the eclipse?
Only with proper eclipse glasses during the partial phases, which we provide. During totality itself, and only then, it is safe to look with the naked eye. Your guide will tell you when.

As early as possible. Hotels in Luxor and domestic flights for the eclipse dates are expected to sell out well in advance.
