Abdel-Nasser. Designed as a massive cooperation project with the Moscow-based Hydroproject Institute, the dam gave Egypt complete control over the annual Nile flooding, generates vital hydroelectricity, and created the enormous water storage reservoir known as Lake Nasser

Arriving before dawn on February 22, or October 22, you will join thousands of celebrating spectators outside the colossal rock-cut mountain temple of King Ramses II (1279–1133 BC).

As the sun breaks over the horizon of Lake Nasser, watch the golden beams pierce the entrance and travel 61 meters (200 feet) deep into the mountain’s dark sanctuary. For exactly 20 minutes, the solar rays illuminate the
